Oxburgh Partners was founded in December 1999 as Mako Capital Partners Ltd. (see below), and launched its first absolute return fund managing European equities on 1st June 2000. Oxburgh Partners has subsequently launched further absolute return funds and has run managed accounts alongside these products including a socially responsible hedge fund.
The management philosophy is to focus on fund performance as opposed to index benchmarking or pure asset raising. To emphasise this philosophy Oxburgh Partners' staff are heavily invested in all of the funds managed. The style of fund management is to run very active portfolios with regards to both exposures and investment ideas while maintaining high levels of liquidity. The investment universe is European equities with large market capitalisations where liquidity tends to be highest enabling the portfolios to be nimble in volatile market conditions. Fundamental research is carried out using in house resources and expertise with the time between investment decision making and implementation being kept to a minimum. The funds currently offer investment in US Dollars, Euros, and Sterling through different share classes.
Oxburgh Partners has five full time staff, with three market professionals who have a combined financial market experience of over 60 years encompassing equity and economic research, derivatives structuring and trading, equity and sector swap trading, as well as risk management and portfolio hedging. The company has four full time partners and no outside interests.
Originally called Mako Capital Partners Ltd. the company came to a financial agreement in April 2003 with an unconnected company named Mako Global Derivatives to change its name to Oxburgh Partners. This was to avoid confusion in the market place, while details of the funds remained unchanged.
